Co-Chair Role
The Co-Chair role is the lead volunteer position for the Bike Rally and will help manage the ride throughout the year from initial planning, leadership development, volunteer management, all the way through to a successful arrival in Montreal.
Key Responsibilities:
Set expectations with Steering Committee members based on the needs and goals of the current year’s Bike Rally, as well as the multi-year priorities, objectives, and strategic direction provided by the PWA. This includes goal setting, communications, procedures, processes, and documentation, among other responsibilities.
Management of event project management platforms.
Chair Monthly Steering Committee meetings.
Manage the volunteers by providing support, coaching, consultation, advice, and ongoing meetings.
Actively participate on the Executive Committee.
Work closely with PWA staff.
Time requirements fluctuate throughout the year and increase around the time of the event. These are in addition to any regular participant activities (i.e. recruitment activities, training, socials, etc.) The below are typical averages:
September-December: 2-4 hours per week
January-May: 4-8 hours per week
June-August: 8-12 hours per week
These time estimates include bi-weekly Operations Team meetings, one monthly Steering Committee Meeting, quarterly Executive Committee meetings, and regular meetings with individual steering portfolios, as required.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational ability.
Excellent Communication skills including timely response to all communications (i.e. emails, and other platforms as required). Strong familiarity and comfort using email is required, as this is the primary mode of communication. The expectation for the Co-Chair and all Steering Committee members is that emails are responded to, or at minimum acknowledged, within 2 business days.
Excellent volunteer management and program coordination skills.
Knowledge of the complexity of issues relating to HIV/AIDS.
Commitment to anti-black racism, anti-indigenous racism, and anti-oppression initiatives, greater and meaningful involvement of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS (GIPOA>MIPA), harm reduction, sex positivity and trauma informed care.
Lived experience of HIV/AIDS, 2SLGBTIQ, BIPOC, substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, and/or the effect of poverty is an asset.
Demonstrated success building, cultivating, and stewarding relationships.
Qualifications:
Past participant in the Bike Rally (crew or rider).
Past participation as a member of the Bike Rally Steering Committee for a minimum of 1 year.
Excellent communication skills
Previous work in a volunteer context.
